Mastitis & Inflammatory breast care

Emma offers specific gentle hands on treatment for inflammatory breast conditions. With the addition of therapeutic ultrasound, Emma is able to provide flexible appointments to help all mums struggling with mastitis, engorgement, blocked ducts and more.

Inflammatory breast conditions

Breastfeeding can be a wonderful part of the postnatal experience, but it can also come with challenges. Breast tenderness, engorgement, localised breast inflammation and mastitis can be painful and overwhelming, particularly when you're already adjusting to life with a new baby.

At Emma Humphrey Osteopathy in Croydon, I offer gentle, personalised care for women experiencing mastitis and other inflammatory breast conditions.

My approach focuses on helping you feel comfortable, supported and informed, while working alongside your GP, midwife, lactation consultant or other healthcare professionals when additional care is needed.

If you're experiencing breast pain, inflammation or breastfeeding-related discomfort, you're welcome to get in touch to discuss whether an appointment may be appropriate for you.

What is mastitis?

Mastitis is primarily an inflammatory condition of the breast, which can progress to bacterial infection if inflammation persists or worsens.

This is why early intervention is important. Addressing symptoms at the early inflammatory stage may help reduce inflammation and discomfort.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic ultrasound may be used as an adjunct to gentle osteopathic treatment when appropriate.
Therapeutic ultrasound has been found to be effective in decreasing inflammation associated with mastitis, engorgement and blocked ducts.

Ultrasound delivers low-frequency sound waves into the tissues to immediately decrease inflammation.

Manual therapy
As each presentation is unique, an assessment and personalised treatment is delivered. Gentle hands on techniques and home management are included in each appointment to be sure you're feeling empowered and well managed outside of your appointment.

Appointments, when to get in touch?

If you are experiencing the early signs of mastitis, I encourage you to get in touch as soon as possible — ideally within the first 24 hours of your symptoms developing.

Early assessment allows us to understand what is contributing to your symptoms and provide appropriate, gentle treatment to support you through the acute stage.

Appointments can be booked online at any time. If you are unable to find an appointment time that suits you, or your symptoms develop outside of clinic hours, please call or email. Emma will always do her best to find an appointment time as soon as possible.
